Many components cannot be soldered with a traditional wave solder process (LCD displays) due to their thermal sensitivity. Other PCB’s cannot be soldered successfully using the traditional wave solder process due to SMD component layout issues. It is both challenging and expensive to custom make solder masks to cover the SMD components,
so customers often choose to hand solder parts instead. Selective soldering offers a solution to automate this process.
